Weldon and Margaret Hardin

Weldon Hardin, 87, of Burleson, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2018. His wife, Margaret Hardin, 84, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2018.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, in Joshua. Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at Cana Baptist Church, in Burleson.

Weldon was born Dec. 23, 1930 in Burleson, Texas, to Marion and Annie Hardin. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Weldon retired from Tarrant County Precinct 1 after many years of service.

Margaret was born May 10, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Clarence and Stella Hunter. She retired after having been a hairdresser for many years.

They were married in Fort Worth on Sept. 12, 1953. The Hardins spent the next 65 years together, devoting themselves to God and their family. They were long-time members of Cana Baptist Church. Both will be deeply missed by their family and the great friends they made along the way.

Weldon was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; one sister; and his son-in-law, Ed Jann.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; three sisters; and son-in-law, Ed Jann.

She is survived by one brother, Gilbert Hunter and his wife, Jean. They are both survived by a son, Doug Hardin; daughter, Debra Jann; grandson, Bryan Jann of North Carolina; granddaughter, Kristy Shipp and her husband Joe; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jacob Jann; Ashlyn, Logan, and Brynna Shipp; numerous extended family members and friends.

Anita Ruth Davis, 88, of Burleson, passed away, Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018.

Visitation was noon, Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, in Joshua. Funeral services followed visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anita was born Feb. 8, 1930. She was a member of Burleson Church of Christ for many years. Anita was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her sons, Gary Davis and wife, Laurie, of Whitney, Texas, Ken Davis and wife, LaDonna, of Mansfield, Texas, and Bret Ford, of Blue Mound, Texas; grandchildren, Kristy Dixon, Timothy Davis and wife, Ana, Ashe Richards and Sarah Pope, Dr. Ally Davis and Andrew Eicher, Thomas Ford, and Annie Rolfe and husband, Patrick; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous loving extended family members and friends.

Karen W. Russell, 65, of Cleburne, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2018.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Burleson. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, Joshua. Interment is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at DFW National Cemetery, in Grand Prairie.

Contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, MD Anderson Center or your favorite charity in honor of Karen Russell.

Karen was born Sept. 5, 1953, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Helen and Robert Wacha. She was a Federal Postal Inspector for some time. Karen then became an elementary school teacher. She had found that teaching children, especially her grandchildren, was her passion.

She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Wacha; and brother, Kevin Wacha.

Survivors include her mother, Helen Wacha; husband, Michael Russell; sons, Michael Russell Jr. and wife, Tifani, Adam Russell and wife, Erin, and James Russell; brother, Robert Wacha Jr. and significant other, Jody Romito; grandchildren, Bradleigh Russell, Saylor Russell, and Bowen Russell; niece, Ashley Snypes; nephew, Robert Wacha III; as well as many other loving friends and extended family members.

Ada Margaret Davis Powell, 83, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation was Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, from 6-8 p.m.

Ada was born May 22, 1935, in Cleburne, Texas, to Clyde Warren and Eleanor Arterburn Davis. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Milton Guy “JR” Powell Jr., who preceded her in death. She retired from a career with the administrative and credit departments of Sears to provide loving daycare for her grandchildren. Over the years, she enjoyed many social activities as a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, with her church group, bridge club or at her local beauty salon. Family consumed most of her time.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde Warren Davis Jr. and Tommy Shelley.

Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Aaron, Kathy Bolt and husband, Glen, and Eleanor Hohenberger and husband, Mark; son, Mike Powell and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Roy, Christan, TW, Courtney, Michael, Harrison, and Justin; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Raegan, Hudson, Harper, Carter and Averil; sisters, Sharon Mason and husband, Ralph, and Carol Weatherford and husband, Skip; brother, Don Davis and wife, Martha; sister-in-laws, Linda Davis, Marlene Shelley, Betty Walraven, and Joan Hickman; brother-in-law, Don Powell and wife, Jean; numerous nieces and nephews who knew her as their Favorite Aunt Ada; and many loving friends.

Billie Reece Baird, 83, of Burleson, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018.

Funeral services 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Burleson. Interment will follow at Burleson Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, Dec. 20, 2018, at Lucas and Blessing Funeral Home.

Billie was born Jan. 28, 1935, to Elmer and Flossie Baird in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was a great example of integrity and humility who left a lasting impression on many people. Billie was a faithful servant of God and taught Sunday school for close to 60 years.

Mr. Baird was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Baird; parents, Elmer and Flossie Baird; brother, Bryon Baird and step-mother, Ruthalee Baird.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Doris Baird; daughter, Toni Baird Borras and husband, Dennis; step-son, Don Leslie Walters; grandchildren, Diane McCullough and husband, Josh, Christina Alvarado and husband, JC, Kyle Casey and wife, April, Lindsay Matherne and husband, Myles, Caitlin Freeman and husband, Trever; nine great-grandchildren; nephew, Michael Baird; niece, Jennifer Baird Brown and numerous other loving family members and friends.

Dorothy Dalton Beauchamp, 84, of Burleson, Texas, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018.

Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at First United Methodist Church of Joshua, Texas.

Dorothy was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on Aug. 14, 1934. She was married to Lee Roy Beauchamp on Aug. 14, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas. She loved music and was a member of First United Methodist church of Burleson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Beauchamp; and her daughters, Shelley and Lori Beauchamp.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Harris; grandchildren, Corey and Tara Harris; and five great-grandchildren.

Lanetta Bridschge, 65 of Burleson, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018.

There will be a visitation Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, from 4:00-6:00 at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Joshua, Texas. She will then be laid to rest at 10:00 on Dec. 24, 2018, at a graveside service at the Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.

Lanetta was born in Tyler, Texas, on March 19, 1953, to F.E. and Janie Meador. They later moved to Burleson, Texas, where Lanetta graduated from Burleson High School in 1971. Shortly after graduation, she met the love of her life, Donald, and they married just a year later. They spent 46 magical years as husband and wife. Lanetta and Donald had four daughters during this time. She loved her family and friends but, most of all, she loved the Lord. Lanetta loved singing in the church choir over the years, and spreading the word of God to anyone that would listen. Her smile and laughter would fill a room and her voice was so comforting, but the thing she was best at was loving and being a servant to others. She is now lighting up the sky, as she did our world. It’s not goodbye, it’s until we see you again!

She is preceded in death by her father, F.E Meador, and mother, Janie Meador, of Burleson, Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Donald; daughters, Michelle Martin and husband, Kaare, Melissa Willson and husband, John, Marie Johnson and husband, Michael, and Meredith Bridschge, all of Burleson, Texas; her brother, Gary Meador and wife, Joyce, also of Burleson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Velma May Archer went home to meet her Savior and loved ones Monday, Dec. 17, 2018.

A memorial service honoring Velma’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 12351 Oak Grove Road S., Burleson, Texas 76028.

Velma was born Jan. 3, 1928, to Fred and Alice Vanderleest of Denver, Colorado.  In the 1940s she joined western riding clubs and performed in rodeo shows. In 1954 She married Merlin (Lucky) Watson Archer. They lived in Brighton, Colorado, Edson, Kansas, and, later, Sweet Home, Texas, where they raised cattle and horses. Velma took on the challenge of raising four children after the couple divorced. She worked as a bookkeeper at Hagan’s Feedlot and then at the Yoakum Gin and Feed Store and eventually became Vice-President and stock owner.  She bought a 35 acre ranch, raised cattle and horses, and retired in 1990. Velma was self-sufficient until the age of 82 when she moved to Burleson, Texas, to live with her daughter, Nancy, and son-in-law, Tom Sevier. She remained there until her death at age 90.

Velma's passions included ranching, gardening, birdwatching, photography, sewing, and woodcarving.

Velma and her children attended Faith Baptist Church in Yoakum, Texas, where she came to know the Lord as her personal Savior.

Her honesty, strong work ethic, love of nature, her determination, strong morals, quick wit, generosity and love for her children and friends will be greatly missed.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gene and Alvin Vanderleest; and grandson, Arik Archer.

Survivors include her children, Ann McGrew, Nancy and Tom Sevier, Dan and Ruth Archer, and Tam and Pam Archer; grandchildren, Keni McMurtry, Matt Sevier, Adam Brumbalow, Alia Archer, Danny Archer, Ian Archer, Ava Archer, Randall Archer, Cody Archer, Delanie Archer, Chelsea Clapp and Tyler Clapp.

Hortencia “Terri/Tencha” Hecht, of Burleson, Texas, passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at the age of 65.

Per Hortencia’s wishes, a memorial service will be held Jan. 5, 2019 at Terri's home.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Hecht; her parents, Maximo and Juanita Garcia; and her brother, Max Garcia.

Hortencia is survived by her two daughters, Marie Cooper and husband, Anthony, and Michelle “Nicki” Riggs and her husband, Jayme; four granddaughters, Tiffany and Meadow Cooper, Ashley Fleming and Bailee Riggs; two great-grandchildren; her four stepsons, JR and wife, Janet, Eric Hecht, Jon and wife, Denise, and Justin Scott; four sisters; two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandra Sue Wilson, 72, of Burleson, Texas, born July 21, 1946, passed away in the comfort of her own home on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgile Wilson and Icle Wellman; and her siblings, Karen Young and Jim Wilson.

Survivors include her three children, John, Jimmy, and Peggy Pruitt; grandchildren, Sandra Walker, Jason, Amanda, Maria, Ashley, Linda Pruitt and Arielle Holt;

nieces, Darla Lynch, Janet Sturgeon; nephews, Bud and John Wilson, Richard, Mike and Randy Young; sister-law, Jan Wilson; her beloved pets, Scooter and Jethro; and numerous friends.

Joshua, Texas resident, David A. Sorter (Dave), passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019. He was 61 years old.
Services were held at Agudas Achim Cemetery, in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Dave's name to the American Heart Association and Southwest Reprise Theatre Company.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Dave realized his calling as a journalist and wordsmith early in life. He received his degree in political science from New York University, holding various jobs with newspapers throughout Texas and New England, such as sports reporter, news reporter, copy editor and managing editor. Additionally, he was content manager at Axiometrics and RealPage. At the time of his death, Dave was principal with The WordSorters LLC, a content marketing company.

Dave was known for his sense of humor, along with his love of sports, politics, compassion and intelligence. He was also highly devoted to his family. Dave will be greatly missed by friends, colleagues and loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Amy (Wolff) Sorter; his son, Michael Sorter; his parents, George H. and Dorienne Sorter; his sister, Adrienne Fisher; his brother, Ivan Lindgren; one nephew and four nieces.

R.G. was a family centered man, and in his last moments, he was surrounded by his beloved family.

A celebration of Life will be February 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Alsbury Baptist Church in Burleson, Texas.

R.G. was born December 7th, 1937, to Archie Mack and ida Lee Parkinson in Granbury, Texas. R.G. graduated Granbury High School in 1956 where his best memories came from playing basketball and football. R.G. had many careers in his life, including preacher for the Church of Christ in these Texas cities: Cresson, Comanche, Deer Park, Fort Worth, and Burleson.

He entered the business world in the 70’s and owned T-Shirt Spectrum, Video Arcades, 1989 Restaurant, car washes and shopping centers. R.G. found his niche with Red Carpet Realtors, then created his own company with a business partner, Preferred Properties Realtors.

He is survived by his siblings; Billie Parkinson Moran, Charles Parkinson, and Ronnie Parkinson; his wife of 32 years, Phyllis Parkinson, of Burleson, Texas; his children, Chris (Cindy) Parkinson; Derek (Sara) Parkinson, Kalen (Ed) Hess, and Victoria Parkinson. His grandchildren, April, Brooke, Josh, Mahila, Rani, Jakob, Kolin, Derian, Keenan; and seven great grandchildren.

Edith Faye (Faulk) Shepherd, 97, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2019
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at Burleson Church of Christ.
Faye was born on August 2, 1921, to Melvin and Edith Faulk in San Antonio, Texas. Faye was a devoted wife and mother. She also volunteered at Huguley Hospital for over 35 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice F. Shepherd; brother, “Mel” W. Faulk; and sister, Dorothy Gray.
Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Harris (Kyle); sons, David Shepherd (Donna), and Glenn Shepherd (Linda); five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Thomas James Byers, 58, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, in Fort Worth, Texas.

The memorial service celebrating his life was 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Byers was born in Fort Worth on Feb 7, 1960, the son of Charlie Belle (Lawson) and Milton Tyler Byers.

He was preceded in death by his father.
