Betty Jane Long Barnard, age 73, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family in Joshua, Texas on February 15, 2018. Betty was born in Hamilton, Texas on March 27, 1944 to Melvin and Mima Long. She lived in Evant with her parents until their untimely death when she was eight years old. After their death, she lived with various relatives through the years and graduated high school in Farmington, New Mexico. Betty is survived by her husband, Wayne Barnard, with whom she spent the last 25 years of her life; her daughter, Tiffany Caffey and her husband, Jim; her son, Kendall Heaps and his wife, Toni; her granddaughter, Madison Heaps; her sister, Glenis Miles; and many extended family and friends.
Betty was a real estate broker, a member of the Board of Realtors, and an owner of several successful businesses in Brownwood and Granbury. One of Betty's greatest joys was being a grandmother, and she could always be found cheering Madison on at swim meets and at the theater. Betty always took the time to write a glowing review of Madison's theater performances, which will always be cherished.
The family suggests that those wishing to honor Betty to make a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in her memory.
Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we know she is now at peace and reunited with her loving parents. Betty requested a celebration of her life be held on her birthday. Details will be provided to family and friends at a later date.
